Plovdiv tunnel construction progresses under Central Station
Construction of a strategic transport tunnel under the Central Railway Station in Plovdiv is advancing toward a planned completion by the end of the year. The project, which includes a 580-meter underground section and a total length of approximately 800 to 900 meters, aims to improve urban mobility by connecting the northern and southern parts of the city.
Key technical features include a two-lane road in each direction, a 5.5-meter clearance height, and integrated bus stops with elevator access. The tunnel's drainage and ventilation systems are already installed, with asphalt paving scheduled for November.
While the tunnel itself is a project of the National Company 'Railway Infrastructure', the Plovdiv Municipality is simultaneously constructing the road connections to the 'Yuzhen' district to ensure seamless integration. Following citizen complaints regarding noise from manholes on Vasil Aprilov Boulevard, contractors have begun replacing the noisy shafts to mitigate local disturbance.
