Plovdiv's Festival Boom Draws Tens of Thousands and International Acts

In July 2026 the city of Plovdiv hosted the PHILLGOOD music festival, featuring the virtual band Gorillaz in their first performance on Bulgarian soil. The concert, part of the group's The Mountain Tour, attracted thousands of attendees along the banks of the Maritsa River.

The same week the city also ran the Hills of Rock festival, with organisers estimating up to 15,000 visitors per day. Across the three nights of PHILLGOOD, an average of 20,000 people attended each event, bringing significant visitor numbers, increased restaurant traffic and a reported influx of millions of leva into the local economy.

Hotel and short‑term rental prices surged, with three‑night apartment packages ranging from €300 to €700 and hotel rooms reaching €900. Organisers noted repeated last‑minute cancellations followed by higher‑priced re‑listings, raising concerns that speculative pricing could deter future festivalgoers. A local comment warned that “Ден – година храни” could become a cautionary tale for Plovdiv’s aspirations to become Bulgaria’s music‑festival capital.
