Plus Ultra investigation targets former President Zapatero
An investigation by the Audiencia Nacional is examining potential irregularities involving former Spanish President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and the airline Plus Ultra. The probe, led by Judge José Luis Calama, focuses on the allocation and use of a 53 million euro rescue package.
Documents provided by former Plus Ultra CEO Roberto Roselli reveal that the airline generated over 2 million euros in just 20 days during the pandemic through charter flights for passenger repatriation and cargo. The airline reportedly sought to reach 6 million euros in revenue if additional permissions were granted by China.
Additionally, the investigation is looking into the role of businessman Julio Martínez Martínez, a personal friend of Zapatero. It is alleged that Martínez Martínez facilitated permissions from the Venezuelan government for Plus Ultra to operate repatriation flights from Venezuela during 2020 and 2021, despite the suspension of regular flights.
