Plzeň introduces Drone Soccer to technical education

Plzeň has become the first city in the Czech Republic to possess certified equipment for Drone Soccer, an internationally recognized sport that combines drone piloting with team strategy. The sport involves teams of pilots maneuvering drones enclosed in protective spherical cages to score goals by flying through opponent gates.

Local authorities and technical schools intend to use the sport as an educational tool. By integrating Drone Soccer into the curriculum of technical schools, such as the Secondary Industrial School of Transport in Plzeň, the city aims to engage students in electronics, construction, programming, and problem-solving. This approach is designed to foster interest in technology and prepare students for future roles in the labor market.

The sport features two main categories: smaller drones played in inflatable arenas measuring 4 by 8 meters, and larger drones played on 10 by 20 meter fields. Plzeň will focus on the smaller category, which is considered ideal for school-based instruction and portability.
