Plzeň Region police pursue drug-impaired drivers
Police in the Plzeň Region have launched criminal proceedings following two separate incidents involving drivers attempting to evade law enforcement while under the influence of drugs.
In the first incident in Konstantinovy Lázně, a 33-year-old man driving a Volkswagen ignored police commands to stop and led officers on a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when the driver lost control, drove onto a grassy area, and crashed, damaging a curb, a traffic sign, and a parked Kia. While alcohol tests were negative, drug tests indicated the presence of amphetamines and methamphetamine. The driver, who was already under a driving ban, refused a medical examination for biological samples.
In a second incident near Chotěšov, a 31-year-old man driving a BMW fled from police on road II/180, reaching high speeds before stopping in Vodní Újezd to attempt an escape on foot. Police apprehended him and two passengers. Similar to the first case, the driver tested negative for alcohol but positive for amphetamines and methamphetamine. He also refused a formal medical examination. Total damages in these incidents are estimated to exceed 200,000 CZK.
