High-speed police chases in the Czech Republic
Overview
Czech police have reported multiple incidents of high-speed chases involving reckless and unlicensed drivers.
In early September, two separate incidents occurred involving drug-impaired individuals. In one case near Mutěnice and Dubňany, a motorcyclist reached speeds of nearly 200 km/h while evading police, posing risks to pedestrians and railway crossings. In the Česká Lípa region, a driver in a Volkswagen Golf reached 170 km/h, colliding with another vehicle and forcing others off the road before being taken into custody on charges of general endangerment.
Later in the month, a 26-year-old man led police on a chase through Plzeň in a BMW, reaching speeds of approximately 110 km/h. Unlike the previous incidents, the driver in this case tested negative for drugs but admitted he wanted to see if he could outrun the police. He was found to be driving without a valid license.
