Plzeň Zoo announces birth of white-nosed coati triplets

Triplets of white-nosed coatis (Nasua narica) were born at the Plzeň Zoo in the Czech Republic. The birth occurred on June 22, ahead of the completion of the species' new enclosure.

The parents, a male from Zoo Magdeburg in Germany and a female from the Vienna Zoo, arrived in Plzeň last autumn. The white-nosed coatis serve as a replacement for red coatis, which were phased out of many zoos after being placed on the EU list of non-native and invasive species. The offspring are currently being cared for near the red panda exhibit until they are mobile enough to move to their permanent habitat.
