PM Ünal Üstel promises wage support and Narh price controls in Cyprus

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with leaders of the Hür-İş Federation, Bay‑Sen, Per‑Sen, Din‑Gör‑Sen and the KTHES at a gathering in Northern Cyprus. He said the government's primary goal since taking office has been to ensure political stability, protect producers and workers, and keep the purchasing power of employees and the self‑employed intact. Üstel pointed to the 2022‑2026 inflation figures and noted that minimum‑wage increases have placed the region among a few countries with rising real wages. He also referenced the impact of the Russia‑Ukraine, Palestine‑Israel and US‑Iran conflicts on the world economy.

Labor federation head Ahmet Serdaroğlu welcomed the agreement on the minimum‑wage table but warned that rising living costs are rapidly eroding real wages. He urged the immediate introduction of a Narh (price‑control) system and stronger market inspections under the Regulation and Inspection Law, offering the federation’s assistance in implementation. Üstel said the government would evaluate all proposals.
