PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Andhra Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district on 1 August 2026. The greenfield airport, built under a public‑private partnership at a cost of over ₹5,640 crore, is designed to handle about six million passengers a year and includes a cargo terminal capable of handling 25,000 metric tonnes annually.

The terminal features AI‑driven systems, building‑information modelling, Airside 4.0, an Airport Predictive Operations Centre, biometric passenger processing and automated baggage handling. Sustainability measures include a 5 MW solar plant, rain‑water harvesting, energy‑efficient HVAC, electric‑vehicle charging and US Green Building Council certification.

Commercial flights are slated to start on 17 August 2026, with the first international service to Singapore. During the ceremony, Modi will also lay foundation stones and inaugurate development projects worth more than ₹17,900 crore, covering a semiconductor hub, renewable‑energy transmission schemes and highway upgrades. Around 13,500–14,000 tribal women will perform the traditional Dhimsa dance along the Prime Minister’s route, aiming for a Guinness World Record and showcasing the region’s cultural heritage.
