PM Narendra Modi visits Seychelles, inks 19 agreements to boost trade and security

Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to the island nation of Seychelles for its 50th independence anniversary, describing the relationship as built on "deep trust and shared progress" and looking ahead to the next fifty years of cooperation. During the three‑day visit India and Seychelles signed 19 memoranda of understanding and agreements, among them an extradition treaty to combat transnational crime and several deals aimed at expanding trade and development assistance.

Seychelles High Commissioner to India Harisoa Lalatiana Accouche hailed the visit, urging Indian investors and businesses to treat the archipelago as a strategic gateway for expanding commercial footprints into Africa, the Middle East and West Asia. She emphasized the islands’ import‑dependent economy and its potential role as a hub linking Asian markets with African and Middle‑Eastern partners.
