Melaka election seat negotiations underway between BN and PN
Political coalitions in Malaysia are currently engaged in complex seat negotiations ahead of the upcoming Melaka state election. Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed openness to negotiations or seat swaps with Perikatan Nasional (PN), provided the discussions are conducted honestly and do not diminish the total number of seats held by either party.
While BN intends to defend the 21 state seats it currently holds, PN has indicated it does not wish to rush into negotiations. PAS, a major component of PN, remains committed to reaching an agreement to ensure political unity, though it noted the need to consider the decline in BN's influence during the 15th General Election.
Simultaneously, Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been in discussions with BN regarding a potential pact. PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil stated that these talks cover both the state assembly seats and Melaka's six parliamentary seats.
