Poarta Raiului road upgraded, tourism boost expected in Alba
The access road to the Poarta Raiului mountain resort in Alba County, Romania, is now described by local hoteliers as being in the best condition ever. The improvement follows a one‑million‑lei investment by the Șugag Municipality and the Alba County Council, which laid a 15‑centimetre layer of stone over the 15‑kilometre stretch, using 15,000 cubic metres of material. County Council Vice‑President Marius Hațegan said the works are slated to finish on 10 July.
Hotel and pension owners say the upgraded route will make the area more reachable for families, organized groups and weekend visitors, enhancing occupancy and supporting restaurants and small businesses. The better road is expected to increase year‑round tourism to the Poarta Raiului destination, known for winter skiing and summer hiking in the Munții Șureanu.
