Podcast advertising projected to capture 48% of US digital audio spend by 2030
Recent industry reports indicate a significant shift in the digital advertising landscape toward podcasts, which are increasingly functioning as an audiovisual medium. According to the Video Advertising Bureau (VAB), audio podcasts are projected to capture 48% of US digital audio advertising spend by 2030, an increase from 42% this year. This growth is supported by the fact that 88% of weekly podcast consumers now access shows through video platforms.
Audacy’s ‘State of Audio’ report highlights the high level of trust listeners place in podcast hosts, with 75% of respondents viewing them as the most authentic voices in advertising. This authenticity contributes to strong performance; podcast advertising has shown an average ROI of 4.2 times the expenditure.
Data also suggests a growing skepticism toward automation, as 75% of weekly podcast audiences would disapprove of content generated by artificial intelligence, and 62% view AI as a potential threat to the medium's credibility. Furthermore, listeners are 27% more likely to be influenced by subject matter experts than by well-known celebrities.
