Frente Amplio coalition announces candidates for Spanish general elections

The Frente Amplio coalition, a new political alliance of several left-wing organizations, has finalized key candidate placements for the upcoming general elections on November 29. Ada Colau, the former mayor of Barcelona, will lead the coalition as the candidate for President of the Government and will run as the number one candidate in Barcelona.

In Madrid, the list will be headed by Emilio Delgado of Más Madrid, followed by Tesh Sidi, with Toni Valero, the coordinator of Izquierda Unida (IU) in Andalusia, occupying the third position. Valero’s placement in Madrid follows his election in IU primaries and has drawn criticism from former Vice President Pablo Iglesias, who questioned the decision to have Valero run in Madrid rather than leading the list in Málaga.

IU federal coordinator Antonio Maíllo defended the move, stating that Valero represents the entire organization following his primary victory. Meanwhile, the Podemos party has confirmed it will run independently in all eight Andalusian provinces, focusing its campaign on housing, labor, and peace issues.
