Podgorica announces urban mobility and green agenda initiatives

At the WB Adapt conference in Podgorica, Mayor Saša Mujović addressed urban mobility challenges, noting that approximately 100,000 registered vehicles occupy roughly 200 hectares of the city's space. To combat congestion and inefficient land use, the city has allocated 200,000 euros for bicycle subsidies and plans to introduce a bike-sharing system starting in January 2027. Mujović emphasized the importance of improving public transport, which currently offers real-time tracking and affordable fares.

Separately, the NGO Green Home organized a national conference regarding the implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans. While Montenegro has made progress in adopting laws and strategic documents related to environmental protection, experts noted that full implementation remains a challenge. The agenda focuses on five key areas: decarbonization, pollution reduction, biodiversity protection, circular economy, and sustainable agriculture. Discussions highlighted that environmental obligations often face competition with other European integration processes, specifically Chapter 27 negotiations.
