Jonas Vingegaard crashes and withdraws from the 2026 Tour de France
During stage 15 (Champagnole – Plateau de Solaison) the Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard fell about 20 km from the finish, suffered a suspected fractured clavicle and was forced to abandon the race. The crash also involved several teammates, including Sepp Kuss and Isaac del Toro, who were able to continue.
Remco Evenepoel of Belgium won the stage, outperforming race leader Tadej Pogacar and moving into second place in the general classification, five minutes behind the Slovenian. Isaac del Toro finished third, while Paul Seixas took fourth. The incident sparked discussion about a 2 a.m. anti‑doping control the night before, which Vingegaard and Pogacar both complained had disrupted their sleep.
The withdrawal of the twice‑Tour winner reshapes the battle for the yellow jersey, leaving Pogacar with a clearer path to victory while Evenepoel emerges as the chief challenger.
