Pohang Semyung Christianity Hospital reports first patient to complete 18-month Leqembi treatment

Pohang Semyung Christianity Hospital has announced that its first patient has successfully completed an 18-month full course of treatment with Leqembi, an Alzheimer's disease medication. The patient, a 72-year-old woman diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's, began the bi-weekly injection regimen in March 2025.

Medical monitoring, including PET-CT scans, showed a significant reduction in amyloid beta protein levels in the brain. Despite having the ApoE ε4/ε4 genotype, which is associated with a higher risk of side effects, the patient completed the treatment without serious adverse reactions and has transitioned to the maintenance phase of care.

The hospital's Dementia Treatment Center, which opened in 2024, utilizes a specialized diagnostic system and collaborates with dementia experts to provide customized treatment plans. The facility aims to provide advanced dementia care to regional patients, reducing the need to travel to the Seoul metropolitan area.
