Pokémon: Wild Card announced for 2027 release

The Pokémon franchise is returning to the big screen in 2027 with a new animated film titled ‘Pokémon: Wild Card’. A teaser for the movie was revealed during the Pokémon World Championship.

Departing from the traditional focus on Pokémon battles, this film will center on the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The story follows a young card game player and their partner, the Ghost-type Pokémon Mimikyu, as they strive to reach the top of the competitive card gaming world.

The film is being produced by the animation studio CloverWorks, known for ‘Spy x Family’. It is directed by Katsuhiko Kitada, with character designs by Akemi Hayashi. This marks the franchise's first new animated feature film since 2020.
