MotoGP announces 2027 preseason testing schedule and technical changes

MotoGP has announced the preseason testing schedule for the 2027 season, which will introduce major technical changes including a reduction in engine capacity from 1,000cc to 850cc, new aerodynamic limits, and the removal of ride-height devices. A significant shift in tire supply will also occur as Pirelli replaces Michelin as the sole provider.

Testing is scheduled to begin with a session at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia on December 1, 2026. This will be followed by a shakedown for test riders and rookies at the Sepang International Circuit on January 29–30, 2027, and an official test at the same venue on January 31–February 1. The final official test will take place at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, on February 6–7. The season will officially launch in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 21.

KTM test rider Pol Espargaro has warned that the transition to Pirelli tires will be a massive shift, potentially altering the competitive hierarchy. He noted that the new tires offer a completely different riding character compared to Michelin, suggesting that riders with previous experience with Pirelli may gain a significant advantage.
