Poland rolls out new speed‑monitoring sections and road repairs disrupt traffic

Poland has expanded its network of segment‑based speed‑measurement systems (OPP). In the last week ten new sections were activated, covering almost 98 km of roads, including stretches on the A1 (Zabrze–Zachód, Piotrków Trybunalski–Dąbrowa, Kutno–Piątek, Mykanów–Radomsko), the A4 Kraków ring (Łagiewniki–Wieliczka), the DK81 Wiślanka (Ochaby Małe–Skoczów, limit 70 km/h), the S8, S6, S5, S19 and other routes. The programme aims for 731 devices nationwide. In the first quarter of 2026 the system recorded over 344 000 speed violations, a 29 % rise from the previous year.

Road works are also affecting drivers. Warsaw’s Egejska street will be closed to traffic from 21:00 on 3 July until 01:00 on 6 July for resurfacing and removal of speed‑reduction measures. In the Łódź region, repairs on national roads DK12 (Błonie–Łączna) and DK74 (Sosnowa–DK12 junction) run from 6 July to 11 July, with lane closures and alternating traffic. In Poznań, municipal councillors have raised concerns over the delayed reconstruction of Obornicka street and related junctions.

Police operations have used drones in Nowy Sącz, resulting in 41 traffic fines, and conducted a “Safe Bicycle Passage” campaign in the Mazovian district on 2 July to enforce cyclist safety rules.
