Poland adjusts drug co‑payments and expands tax relief for chronic‑illness medicines

From 1 July 2024 a new list of reimbursed medicines takes effect in Poland, altering patient co‑payments. The Ministry of Health announced reductions for 282 drugs, the largest cut of 303.53 zł affecting the osteoporosis drug Prolia, while subsidies rise for 449 drugs, notably allergen‑immunotherapy products such as Staloral 300 and Oralair.

In parallel, Poland’s rehabilitation tax relief allows individuals with disability certificates, or their dependents, to deduct expenses for prescribed medicines for chronic conditions such as hypertension and joint disease. Only products listed in the official medicinal‑product register qualify; dietary supplements are excluded. Deductions apply to the amount exceeding 100 zł per month, with invoices and medical documentation required for verification.

Both measures aim to lessen the financial burden of long‑term medication, though eligibility is limited to those meeting specific medical and tax criteria.
