Poland advances $36 bn Centralny Port Komunikacyjny airport‑rail hub

Poland is moving ahead with the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), now branded Port Polska, a €120‑131 billion ($33‑36 bn) transport megaproject being built about 25 miles west of Warsaw. The project will combine a new international airport with a high‑speed rail terminal, extensive road links and commercial zones. Power‑supply contracts have recently been awarded, signaling the shift from design to construction. Groundworks are slated to start in autumn 2026, with the airport and its main high‑speed rail connections expected to open by the end of 2032.

The site will cover roughly 11.5 sq mi, more than double Heathrow’s footprint, initially featuring two 2.3‑mile runways and space for up to four runways in the future. The airport is projected to handle 34‑40 million passengers per year at launch, rising to about 65 million by 2060 and ultimately up to 100 million. Integrated rail lines will allow passengers to board high‑speed trains directly beneath the terminal, positioning the hub as a potential rival to major European airports such as Heathrow and even global hubs like JFK and Dubai International.
