Poland advances digital healthcare with e-prescriptions and oncology cards

Poland is expanding its digital healthcare infrastructure through the use of the Individual Patient Account (IKP), which facilitates e-prescriptions and e-referrals. Patients with an active IKP can receive a 4-digit code via SMS to redeem medications at pharmacies using their PESEL number. The system also allows patients to view dosage information, medical history, and visit records.

In the field of oncology, the electronic DiLO card (Diagnostics and Oncology Treatment) is being integrated into the healthcare system. Although the regulations came into effect in August, full implementation is pending as hospitals integrate their IT systems with the P1 platform and the National Health Fund (NFZ). Implementation is expected to progress through the third and fourth quarters, with initial rollout planned for facilities such as the National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw and the Copernicus Oncology and Traumatology Center in Łódź.
