Poland advances military modernization and armored capabilities
Poland is undergoing a significant military modernization to bolster its defense capabilities and its role within NATO. A key component of this strategy involves the development of the Homar rocket artillery program. While Poland is successfully integrating the Korean-based Homar-K (K239 Chunmoo) systems, experts suggest that continued procurement of the American HIMARS (designated Homar-A) remains essential. The HIMARS systems would serve as a qualitative operational reserve, ensuring full interoperability with NATO forces and the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS).
Parallel to artillery advancements, Poland is expanding its armored capabilities. The Polish Land Forces, currently comprising over 70,000 soldiers, are part of a broader plan to potentially double the army's size to 300,000 personnel. This expansion requires a massive increase in modern equipment to replace aging Soviet-era assets. The Polish defense industry, led by Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, has demonstrated increased effectiveness in producing anti-aircraft sets, howitzers, and rifles, positioning the country as a growing armored power within the alliance.
