Poland advances S19 Babica‑Jawornik expressway with completed ES‑17 overpass and tunnel drilling progress

Construction of the S19 expressway’s Babica–Jawornik segment in Poland has reached a milestone with the completion of the ES‑17 overpass. The 200‑metre long structure, built using a longitudinal sliding method, incorporated about 910 tonnes of reinforcement steel and 4,350 m³ of concrete. The work, carried out by Intercor under a 1.2 billion zł contract, is part of an 11.6 km stretch that includes eight overpasses and five viaducts.

Work on the 2,255‑metre Babica tunnel is also progressing. The second one‑way nave, drilled by the TBM “Karpatka”, now has 68 concrete rings in place, with over 1,000 still to be installed. The tunnel, part of a 2.2 billion zł consortium project led by Mostostal Warsaw and Acciona Construcción, is scheduled for completion in 2028 and will feature two lanes plus an emergency lane in each direction, along with animal crossings and emergency facilities such as helicopter pads.
