Poland advances space sector with satellite launch and Mars mission technology
Poland is expanding its capabilities in the space sector through the development of domestic satellite and rocket technologies. National centers are working on systems to launch small satellites into low Earth orbit, which serve both civilian and military purposes, including Earth observation, navigation, and communications.
In a significant milestone for European space exploration, the Polish company Astronika has successfully completed critical tests for the ExoMars mission. The company’s proprietary egress system, designed for the Rosalind Franklin rover, underwent rigorous testing at the ALTEC facility in Turin, Italy. The tests simulated Martian conditions, including reduced gravity and rugged terrain, to ensure the 300-kilogram rover can safely descend from its landing platform. The European Space Agency (ESA) considers this system vital to the mission's success, as the descent is a high-risk phase with no opportunity for error once initiated.
