Poland: AI usage for health queries rises amid supplement safety concerns
A new report titled ‘Health with AI’ reveals that 58% of Polish adults have used large language models (LLMs) to ask health-related questions over the past year. Approximately 19% of these users followed AI suggestions to purchase over-the-counter medications or supplements.
Of particular concern, 8% of respondents reported changing their prescribed medication dosage or discontinuing treatment entirely based on AI advice. Furthermore, 14.9% of users viewed AI responses as formal medical diagnoses. While 39% of users regularly consult a medical professional regarding AI-generated suggestions, 25.4% never verify the information provided by the technology.
Medical experts emphasize the risks of unmonitored supplement use, noting that many patients fail to disclose dietary supplements to doctors. Such omissions can lead to dangerous drug interactions; for example, St. John’s Wort can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives and immunosuppressants, while substances like curcumin and Ginkgo Biloba may impact blood clotting.
