Poland and Baltics increase security against potential Russian false-flag attacks

Poland and the Baltic states are increasing security measures around critical infrastructure, including power plants, dams, and natural gas facilities, due to fears of a Russian “false flag” attack. Intelligence assessments suggest Moscow may attempt to use Ukrainian drones to stage sabotage against these nations to test NATO’s response.

Lithuania has deployed military personnel to support riot police in securing liquefied natural gas terminals, oil product terminals, and key power links with Poland. Latvian officials have also heightened security for the Daugava River dam and the Incukalns underground gas storage facility, noting that hybrid threats have become more likely.

While Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has dismissed these warnings as “scare stories” intended to justify militarization, regional leaders maintain that they are taking necessary precautions to defend against potential clandestine operations.
