Poland and Germany roll out new driver regulations

From 10 June 2026 Poland simplified the registration of used vehicles. Drivers no longer have to remove licence plates or present paper proof of a technical inspection; a declaration that the plates are readable is sufficient. The number of required documents is reduced and authorities will verify inspections electronically via the CEPiK system. Full online registration through the mObywatel app is slated for early 2027, allowing owners to complete the process without visiting an office.

From 1 July 2026 Germany extended the period for issuing traffic‑fine notices from three to six months. The change applies to common violations such as speeding, red‑light running, phone use while driving and illegal parking, and it also covers drivers from other EU states, including Poland. Fine amounts and points remain unchanged; only the enforcement window is longer, aiming to reduce cases that previously expired due to administrative delays.
