Poland and Romania report Russian drone and missile airspace breaches
Polish air‑defence sirens sounded early Thursday as at least one Russian‑made cruise missile and several drones entered Poland’s eastern airspace. The missile struck a field near Tarnava Kolonia, leaving a 10‑metre crater but causing no injuries. Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz said about 20 objects were detected near the border that night, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha identified the missile as a Kh‑101.
Romania confirmed that three Russian drones were shot down between 24‑26 July after they breached its airspace. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised the incidents at OSCE meetings, where 41 of the 57 participating states expressed concern. In response, Romania expelled a Russian diplomat and summoned the Russian ambassador to Bucharest for consultations.
A Romanian fighter pilot who downed two of the drones said the missions were undertaken to protect the nation. A poll conducted after the incidents found that while most Romanians support the government’s response, 35 % believe the drone incursions were staged by Ukraine, highlighting public scepticism about the origin of the attacks.
