Poland approves National Evacuation Plan for war and disasters

Poland has formally approved its National Evacuation Plan, a strategic document designed to facilitate the movement of populations in the event of war, military threats, or natural disasters. Approved on July 3, 2026, by the Minister of Interior and Administration, the plan was developed by the Government Centre for Security in coordination with regional governors and the Polish Armed Forces.

The comprehensive system involves all 2,477 municipalities in Poland, which have been required to designate evacuation routes, assembly points, and transport methods. In Warsaw, preparations include adapting metro stations for use as shelters and procuring 120 buses capable of transporting individuals on stretchers.

This national effort aligns with broader European Union security strategies. The European Commission has recommended that citizens prepare for at least 72 hours of self-sufficiency to mitigate the impact of infrastructure failures, cyberattacks, or supply chain disruptions. The EU's strategy for a readiness union emphasizes securing essential resources such as food, water, fuel, and medicine to ensure resilience against hybrid threats and military conflicts.
