Poland arrests Russian national for alleged espionage

A 55-year-old Russian citizen, Aleksander Maszowiec, has been detained in Świdnica, Poland, on charges of acting on behalf of a foreign intelligence service. Authorities reported finding professional photography equipment and hundreds of thousands of images of critical railway and communication infrastructure in his possession.

Maszowiec’s sister, Ksenia Suchorukowa, has publicly disputed the allegations, describing them as “absurd and terrifying.” She stated that photographing trains and aircraft has been a long-standing hobby for her brother and that he was in Poland for business purposes. Following his arrest, the court ordered a three-month temporary detention.
