Poland school supply costs rise ahead of new academic year

As the new school year approaches in Poland, parents are facing rising costs for school supplies. Research indicates that 40 percent of parents plan to spend more than they did last year, with the average cost for one child estimated at approximately 623 PLN. This amount represents about 17 percent of the minimum monthly wage, requiring nearly four days of work to cover.

To mitigate these expenses, many families are turning to discounts and promotions. Some retailers, such as Auchan, are offering extremely low prices on basic items like glue, pens, and notebooks. However, the increased shopping activity has also led to warnings from the police regarding cybercrime. Scammers are utilizing fake online stores and high-pressure sales tactics to steal money and personal data.

Additionally, health officials are highlighting the importance of physical well-being during the school season. The State Sanitary Inspection conducted studies on student backpack weights, noting that while most students fall within the recommended limit of 10–15 percent of their body weight, some still carry excessive loads. Experts also emphasize the need for regular movement to counteract the effects of prolonged sitting and screen time.
