Poland becomes sixth-largest economy in the EU

Poland has become the sixth-largest economy in the European Union, surpassing Sweden and Belgium, according to Eurostat data for 2025. With a GDP of €922.9 billion at current prices, Poland accounts for 4.9% of the total EU economy.

Only Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands maintain larger economies within the bloc. Poland also stands as the largest economy in Central and Eastern Europe, significantly ahead of Romania, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. This growth is attributed to sustained industrial development, increased exports, rising consumption, and investment. In 2025, Poland's real GDP grew by 3.6%, outpacing the EU's overall growth rate of 1.5%.

Despite the increase in total economic size, Eurostat figures indicate that individual prosperity remains below the union average. Poland's GDP per capita in 2025 was reported to be less than 85% of the EU average.
