Poland begins delivery of FlyEye drones amid European defense tech investment boom

Poland has commenced the delivery of FlyEye unmanned aerial systems to its military forces. Under a contract with WB Group worth approximately 1.3 billion PLN net, the Polish Armament Agency is procuring 190 sets, totaling 760 drones. These systems, designed for reconnaissance and observation, feature optoelectronic heads for day and night operations and are intended for both operational forces and Territorial Defense Forces.

This procurement aligns with a broader surge in European defense technology investment. In 2026, European defense startups secured a record 7.4 billion USD in venture capital, nearly tripling the total from 2025. This growth is driven by increased military budgets across Europe in response to security threats.

U.S. investors have become increasingly dominant in this sector, providing 47% of the funding for European defense startups in 2026, compared to just 17% in 2020. Germany has emerged as the largest European market for defense technology, attracting 3.5 billion USD in funding so far this year.
