Polish MP Łukasz Litewka killed in traffic accident, driver re‑questioned
Łukasz Litewka, a member of the Polish Sejm, died on 24 April after being struck by a car while cycling in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The 57‑year‑old driver, who was initially detained and later released on bail, has been summoned again by the Sosnowiec prosecutors and gave supplemental testimony, maintaining his original account of the incident. Prosecutors noted the driver’s statements fluctuate between loss of consciousness and partial memory, prompting a forensic reconstruction slated for September that will examine road conditions, signage and traffic organization. The investigation also revealed the driver tested negative for substances and was not using a mobile phone at the time. Local authorities plan to renovate the accident‑prone Kazimierzowska Street, citing its poor technical state.
