Poland carp production faces shortages and price hikes
Carp production in Poland is facing challenges that may lead to higher prices and lower availability for the upcoming Christmas season. The Organization of Polish Carp Producers estimates that domestic production will be lower than last year, with potential price increases of 10% to 20% due to rising production and transport costs.
Key factors contributing to the decline include worsening hydrological conditions and water shortages, alongside pressure from fish-eating animals and competition from cheaper imports. Despite these difficulties, industry representatives suggest that carp should still be available for holiday consumers.
In related management efforts, supplementary stocking activities have been conducted to maintain fish stocks. Approximately 1,740 kg of young carp were released into two fishing districts (SO 2 and SO 3) to compensate for shortages experienced during the spring stocking season.
