Poland clarifies rules for carrying fuel in car canisters

Polish regulations allow private drivers to transport gasoline or diesel in sealed, certified canisters for personal use, but impose strict limits. A total of up to 240 liters may be carried, with no single container exceeding 60 liters. Only containers specifically designed for fuel and bearing the required safety markings are permitted; ordinary plastic bottles or repurposed containers are prohibited. Fuel‑station staff are authorized to refuse filling a canister that does not meet these standards. The fuel already stored in a vehicle’s factory tank is excluded from the limits. Drivers must secure the canister in the luggage compartment, keep it upright, and ensure the cap is tightly closed to prevent vapor escape.
