Poland marks 82nd anniversary of Warsaw Uprising with nationwide ceremonies

On 1‑2 August 2026, towns and cities across Poland commemorated the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. In Mniszew (Kozienice County) a mass, a march to a war monument and a patriotic choir concert were held under the words of Starosta Krzysztof Wolski. Similar ceremonies took place in Zakopane, where a 99‑year‑old veteran Barbara Grocholsk‑Kurkowiak attended the siren‑stop and wreath‑laying, and in Rzeszów, where Starosta Krzysztof Jarosz led a mass, a salute and a concert with choirs and orchestra. Smaller municipalities – Więcbork, Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Lubin, Tłuszcz, Wola, Ostrołęka, Ostrołęka, and the Museum of the “Cursed Soldiers” in Ostrołęka – organised flag‑raising, sirens at the hour W, historical reenactments, concerts of patriotic songs and exhibitions of wartime artefacts. The Polish Parliament’s Law and Justice (PiS) councillors in Warsaw lodged an interpellation over the decision to omit the reading of delegation names during the official ceremony at the Warsaw Uprising Cemetery. A football match between Legia Warsaw and Zagłębie Lubin featured a large flag and a minute of silence to honour the uprising. Across the country, officials, veterans, schoolchildren and citizens gathered to lay wreaths, sing “Serce w plecaku” and recall the sacrifice of the 1944 fighters.
