Poland commemorates anniversary of Bataliony Chłopskie commander

Commemorative ceremonies were held in Poland to mark the anniversary of the appointment of Franciszek Kamiński as the commander of the Bataliony Chłopskie (Peasant Battalions) in 1940.

The Bataliony Chłopskie served as the second-largest armed organization within the Polish underground during World War II. Composed primarily of farmers, teachers, and rural activists, the group engaged in sabotage, diversionary activities, and the protection of civilians against German occupation and forced displacements.

Events included commemorations at the Bataliony Chłopskie Monument and at the grave of General Franciszek Kamiński at the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw. The 15th Lubuska Territorial Defense Brigade, which considers itself the successor to the Bataliony Chłopskie tradition, participated in the ceremonies.
