Poland commemorates anti-communist resistance fighters
Commemorative events were held in Poland to honor soldiers and members of the underground resistance who fought against the communist regime following World War II.
In Włodawa, ceremonies marked the 80th anniversary of the October 22, 1946, raid on the District Public Security Office by Freedom and Independence (WiN) units led by brothers Leon and Edward Taraszkiewicz. The event included the unveiling of a memorial plaque and a patriotic concert titled ‘Echa Wolności’ to honor those who continued the struggle for Polish independence.
In Wrocław, a funeral service was held at the Osobowicki Cemetery for four individuals associated with the Dębica district of the Home Army (AK) and the Freedom and Independence association. The deceased—Ludwik Marszałek, Jan Klamut, Stanisław Dydo, and Władysław Cisek—were victims of communist repression who were murdered in 1948. The ceremony was attended by President Karol Nawrocki, who emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices made for a sovereign Poland.
