Poland celebrates Armed Forces Day with major military parades

Poland celebrated Polish Armed Forces Day on August 15, 2026, marking the 106th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw. The commemorations included a massive military parade in Warsaw featuring approximately 2,000 soldiers, 300 pieces of equipment, and 60 aircraft, including F-35 fighter jets. A separate naval parade took place near Gdynia and Gdańsk with roughly 20 vessels participating.

President Karol Nawrocki promoted 21 military officers to higher ranks and emphasized the importance of national history in assessing modern threats. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz introduced the 'SAFE' motto—Alliances, Army, Factories, and Europe—as pillars of national security. Prime Minister Donald Tusk highlighted the need for strength and preparedness to avoid war, noting that security relies on secure borders, alliances, military investment, and a strong economy.

Modernization efforts are central to the celebrations, with the SAFE program allocating 180 billion PLN for the military, police, and defense industry. Additionally, 3.4 billion PLN is designated for 'Safe Baltic' projects to protect critical maritime infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Poland, noting the historical role of Ukrainian soldiers in the 1920 victory.
