Poland commissions first F-35 'Husarz' fighters, boosting NATO air defense

Poland formally inducted its first three F-35A Lightning II stealth fighters, nicknamed “Husarz,” into the Polish Air Force during a ceremony at the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask. The aircraft were welcomed with a water salute and high‑level speeches from defence officials and the president, marking the country's entry into fifth‑generation aviation.

The deployment deepens Poland’s interoperability with NATO and signals a shift in the alliance’s eastern flank. Plans call for a fleet of up to 64 F‑35A jets, with additional deliveries scheduled through 2029. Lockheed Martin’s regional director OJ Sanchez said the entry “signals a new chapter in national defense and regional security.” The new fighters enhance Poland’s air superiority, deterrence posture and ability to conduct multi‑role missions alongside allied forces.
