Poland confirms July 12 is not a permitted Sunday shopping day
Poland's current retail law allows only four Sundays for regular shop trading this year, and the 12 July Sunday is outside that list. The next permitted Sunday for most stores is 30 August. The law, in force since 2018, includes numerous exemptions that keep fuel stations, pharmacies, post offices, bakeries, small owner‑run shops, hotels, transport hubs and tourist venues open on prohibited Sundays.
For 2026 the schedule of allowed Sundays will remain at eight dates: 25 January, 29 March, 26 April, 28 June, 30 August and three Sundays in December (6, 13 and 20). No legislative changes have been announced, and the existing exemptions will continue to apply. Retailers in tourist regions have asked for a flexible schedule, but the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy says no pilot schemes are planned.
The restrictions aim to limit weekend work in retail while still providing access to essential services and supporting holiday‑season shopping.
