Poland's economy shows strong growth, potentially catching Germany by 2040
Poland is experiencing robust economic growth, outpacing much of the European Union. Economists, including Marcin Piątkowski, suggest that Poland could potentially reach the economic level of Germany by approximately 2040. This growth is driven by a strong private sector, high education levels, and effective economic policies, while Germany faces stagnation attributed to restrictive fiscal policies.
EY analysts project Poland's GDP growth to reach 3.9% in 2026, significantly higher than the eurozone's expected pace. However, challenges remain. The country faces a massive investment gap, with an estimated need for 4 trillion PLN by 2040 to fund energy, infrastructure, and digital transitions. Additionally, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pose risks to inflation and energy costs.
Domestic political factors also present economic risks. Potential presidential vetoes from Karol Nawrocki regarding tax reforms could reduce state revenues by an estimated 8 to 15 billion PLN. Furthermore, economists from Credit Agricole suggest that persistent inflation and energy shocks might force the Monetary Policy Council to raise interest rates in late 2026.
