Poland and EU face challenges in Ukraine military aid and security
Poland faces complex geopolitical challenges regarding its support for Ukraine. Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk warned that Russia is attempting to disrupt the Ukrainian railway system and aims to cut off military supplies before winter. He characterized recent Russian strikes in western Ukraine as tests of NATO and potential allied assistance.
Politically, Przemysław Czarnek has emphasized that while Poland should continue to support Ukraine, such aid must be measured against Polish national interests and security. He argued that Warsaw should not act as an agency merely fulfilling the demands of others without regard for its own economic and historical considerations.
On the European level, France is currently blocking a compromise within the European Peace Facility (EPF). This deadlock prevents the reimbursement of member states for weapons provided to Ukraine and is also stalling an additional 1 billion euro in aid for Kyiv. The dispute involves how to distribute approximately 6.6 billion euros remaining in the fund.
