Poland emerges as sixth-largest economy in the European Union

Poland has emerged as a major economic force in Europe, rising to become the sixth-largest economy in the European Union. With a 2025 GDP of approximately 922.9 billion euros, the country has surpassed nations such as Belgium, Sweden, Ireland, and Austria.

Economist Marcin Piątkowski compares Poland’s recent growth trajectory to the rise of the East Asian tiger economies, noting that its expansion over the last 35 years has outpaced many global leaders. Key drivers of this performance include education, entrepreneurship, political pragmatism, and integration with the European Union.

Projections suggest Poland could overtake Switzerland to become the world's 20th largest economy by 2028. While the country continues to grow rapidly—with real GDP increasing by 3.6 percent, more than double the EU average—it remains a significant player on the threshold of joining the G20.
