Poland implements new energy tariff and billing regulations

Poland is implementing significant changes to its energy sector through new Ministry of Energy regulations. These changes aim to improve the transparency and predictability of electricity tariffs for both industrial and residential consumers. Large energy-intensive enterprises consuming at least 50 GWh annually will benefit from reduced network fees, a move expected to save companies approximately 440 million PLN per year and enhance industrial competitiveness.

For residential consumers and prosumers, several updates are taking effect. TAURON has transitioned all prosumers to a mandatory monthly billing cycle, replacing previous 2, 6, or 12-month cycles. Additionally, new legislation regarding renewable energy sources (OZE) clarifies that energy storage units will not automatically increase the installed power of micro-installations, provided certain technical conditions are met.

Furthermore, the government has expanded support mechanisms for households facing energy poverty, allowing for debt repayment in installments or even total debt forgiveness under specific criteria. On a local level, various energy operators, including Enea and PGE Dystrybucja, have announced scheduled power outages across several regions, such as Wielkopolska and Mazovia, to facilitate network modernization and maintenance.
