Poland enforces electric scooter age limits after minor-related incidents

Police in Poland have reported two separate incidents involving minors operating electric scooters without required qualifications, highlighting strict enforcement of updated road safety regulations.

In Racibórz, officers intercepted a 12-year-old boy riding an electric scooter on Zamkowa Street. Under regulations effective since March 3, 2026, the minimum age for operating an electric scooter on public roads is 13. Individuals under this age may only use such vehicles within residential zones and under adult supervision. The boy's case, which also involved a vehicle with a detached rear fender, is being referred to family court.

In Gorzów Wielkopolski, a 15-year-old riding an electric scooter struck a three-year-old child on a sidewalk. The teenager did not possess the necessary bicycle card or qualifications. The child was hospitalized following the collision. The teenager's legal guardian provided the scooter, resulting in a 5,000 PLN fine for the boy's mother. The matter involving the teenager will also be handled by family court.
