Poland enters peak autumn mushroom picking season

The autumn mushroom picking season is currently in full swing across Poland. Experts describe the period as a “soft autumn mushroom season,” characterized by steady yields without extreme peaks or shortages. While porcini mushrooms are becoming rarer, large bay boletes and various species like honey fungus and russula are becoming more prominent.

In the Wielkopolska region, recommended locations for foragers include Puszcza Notecka, the areas around Chodzieź and Pniew, the forests near Szamotuły and Skoki, and Strzeszynek in Poznań. Foragers can expect to find boletes, bay boletes, and butter mushrooms, particularly following rainfall.

Nationwide, the highest concentrations of mushrooms are currently reported in the south and west of the country, specifically around Opole, Katowice, Zielona Góra, Piła, and Chojnice. Local reports also indicate significant harvests in Mielec and Muchówka.
